FAQ & Team Information

Who we are, and what we're about!

We’re the Klamath Falls Composite Team, part of the NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) Oregon League, and we’re all about mountain biking! Whether you’re new to the sport or have some experience, you’re welcome here. No try-outs, no benching—everyone gets to ride and have fun.

Our team is focused on having a great time, challenging ourselves, and supporting each other. You’ll make new friends, learn about trail stewardship, improve your biking skills, and enjoy the outdoors with a friendly group.

We offer group rides, skill sessions, and fun games. We group riders by age, skill, and goals, so whether you’re interested in racing or just want to ride for fun, we’ve got you covered. While attendance isn’t mandatory, those who participate regularly tend to improve faster and are better prepared for races and longer rides. As you get better and show good risk management, you’ll be able to tackle longer and more advanced trails.

We’re not an elite development team, and we don’t ride extreme or technical trails that require shuttles. We believe in the positive energy of riding with peers and supportive coaches who are here to encourage you.

Not sure if this is for you? Come try one of our weekday team rides and see what we’re all about!   Please do reserve a spot on our team ride beforehand.

Team dues and NICA /Oregon League fees are paid to TWO different organizations

$305 - Oregon State League/ NICA Student Athlete National fee

Covers participation in NICA/League programs and events (e.g., insurance, coaching resources, 4 races, GRiT rides). These fees are due when you register your teen through the PitZone. We do not receive any funding from these dues to operate the team.

League  scholarships are available, but you must register your teen in the PitZone first before applying for the scholarship.

$100 - Klamath Falls Composite Team Fees

Covers team expenses, supplies, some coach certification costs, and scholarship funding. Many coaches volunteer 40 to 100+ hours per season. These fees also cover small per diem and race weekend costs, OTB101 annual training, and other training costs.

Fees can be paid online during registration, or by check, Zelle, or cash. Please make checks payable to Klamath Falls Composite. We ask that fees be paid once your teen starts attending team rides.

Team scholarships and payment plans are available for those who need them. Please indicate this when registering your teen.

Team Jersey
All team members are required to purchase a jersey, which costs between $50 and $90. We offer these at wholesale pricing, but to get this discount, we need to meet minimum purchase levels. Payment for jerseys is due before we place the order in early June..

Equipment costs - varies depending on what you currently own and what is available.

Required Gear

To safely participate in team practices, weekend rides, and races, the following gear is required:

  • Multi-speed bike: In good working order, suitable for mountain biking. Note: Bikes from department stores (Walmart, Target, etc.) are not safe for mountain biking due to their weight, comfort, and manufacturing quality.
  • Helmet: Properly fitting, undamaged, and less than 5 years old.
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Bike kit: Including a small bike pump, tube, tire levers, etc.
  • Water bottle or hydration pack
  • Eye protection: Sunglasses or eyeglasses

All bikes used for practice must be inspected for safety by Zach’s Bikes. There is no charge for the inspection, but please do this as soon as possible, as they may recommend repairs to make the bike safe to ride. We will not allow teens to ride on a bike that is not safe or appropriate for the trails we ride. No exceptions.

Concerned about the cost of starting a new sport?

Please don't let the all the upfront costs prevent your teen from participating. Let us know how we can assist.

We have a few team loaner bikes in limited sizes for teens who can't obtain a bike. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis and require an application and loaner agreement. We prioritize families who wouldn't be able to participate otherwise. If you want to borrow a bike to see if your teen enjoys it, please use it for only one or two weeks. If your teen is hooked, they should have their own bike.

If you need something or don't have the necessary gear, let us know. Many team members upgrade their equipment and are happy to hand down or sell bikes and gear they've outgrown. We also have an inventory of donated used riding gear and clothing available.

How do I join the team?

You will be registering your teen with TWO organizations.

  • StackTeamApp - Registration
    • Registration and StackTeamApp sign up is done at the same time.
    • Returning students, just fill out the registration form, update their grade, school information, and jersey style and size.   You can pay online at that time.   If you want to pay by check or cash, you can bring to the beginning of season parent/team meeting or first ride your teen attends.
    • For New student athletes this is an online team management program that we use to communicate to the team, coaches and parents.  This is a private network only available to paid and registered riders’ households and coaches.  If you do not sign up your rider here, they cannot join our rides.
  • We will send you two “Invites” - one from NICA  and another from StackTeamApp.  You must “join” both.  email lillian.kfcmtb@gmail.com requesting to join.
  • Registration with NICA is done thru the “PitZone” - opens up April 1st!
    • All the legal stuff and agreements are signed off here
    • Payment of NICA/League is done through this site.
    • Riders will not be allowed to ride with the team until all payment and scholarship arrangements are made.
  • All riders must be registered in the PitZone and have paid all dues (or have made financial arrangements) before joining their first ride.  No exceptions.
  • If you want to ride with the team, before deciding to join, please arrange this with the Team Director/Head Coach to get a signed waiver.

If registration is full, you will be placed on our waiting list.

I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS or want my teen to try one of your team rides: Call our team director, Lillian at 541-892-7894 or email at lillian.kfcmtb@gmail.com
